Dentures and Partials

A complete denture is a full-arch removable prosthesis, and it is a teeth replacement option for patients with no remaining natural teeth. Similarly, a partial denture is also a removable prosthesis, and it is a teeth replacement option for patients with several missing teeth on the same arch. However, for a patient to be a candidate for a partial denture, he or she must have a sufficient number of stable anchor teeth to support the partial. Unlike a complete denture, which sits on the soft tissues of the arch, a partial denture is supported by the patient’s remaining natural teeth which serve as attachment points. The partial itself is typically reinforced by an inner metal framework, and when completed, the partial denture will “click” into place as it engages with the anchor teeth.
